The City of Victoria is committed to helping maintain a healthy environment for current and future generations by offering recycling services to residents. Recycling is the process of collecting, sorting, cleaning, treating, restoring and converting materials that would otherwise become solid waste and part of a landfill. Recycling helps keep disposal costs down while preserving natural resources and protecting the air, soil and groundwater. Recycling operates as a component of the Environmental Services Department and is managed by the Solid Waste Division.
Curbside Recycling is Coming to Victoria
The very first Recycling cart was delivered to Zhayvan Gayle on January 3rd, 2012. He had showed interest in a city-wide recycling program at City Council meetings in 2011.
The Curbside Residential Recycling Program had it's first pick up on February 6, 2012. Recycling will be collected on a different day from residents' normal trash pick-up. Victoria residents should have already received their 96-gallon green and yellow recycling container. If you did not receive your cart please call the Solid Waste Department at 361-485-3220. The curbside recycling program is only available at this time for residential customers. Future plans to expand the program to include businesses and apartment complexes are being discussed.
