The City of Victoria Communications & Public Affairs has earned a national award from the City-County Communications & Marketing Association (3CMA) for its coverage of the Green Ribbon Program beautification project.
The department earned a first-place Savvy Award in the Social Media – Best Campaign Use category for its promotion of the beautification project on Loop 463.
Communications staff cooperated with Environmental Services to obtain photos throughout the development of the project and provide progress updates on social media, using visuals and humor to build excitement around the project.
Staff also monitored the posts and responded to residents’ questions and comments about the project, including questions about funding sources and about the project’s compliance with drought restrictions.
The project ended with a ribbon-cutting ceremony that was livestreamed by staff.
“As a department, we always seek innovative ways to reach out to our residents and encourage constructive dialogue,” said Communications Director Ashley Strevel. “I’m proud to have an exceptional team who take seriously the role of using social media to communicate with their community while using wit and humor.”
In recent years, Communications & Public Affairs has increased its use of diverse communication methods to engage with residents. To learn more about how to stay connected with the City of Victoria, visit www.victoriatx.gov/newsroom.
