The City of Victoria has terminated its local order to wear facial coverings, canceled several events expected to gather more than 10 people and closed some park amenities in response to the orders issued Thursday by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, which still requires the wearing of masks.

Governor Abbott’s orders take effect at 12:01 p.m. July 3 and will require people in counties in Texas with confirmed COVID-19 case counts of more than 20 to wear facial coverings in public and restrict outdoor gatherings or groups of more than 10 people, unless exempted, and wherever six feet social distancing is not able to be maintained.

To abide by Governor Abbott’s orders, Victoria Mayor Rawley McCoy signed an order Thursday and effective 12:01 p.m. on July 3 that terminates the city’s July 1 additional hygiene measures. To view the order, visit www.victoriatx.gov/639/COVID-19-Local-and-State-Orders.

In addition, some City of Victoria events, including those to be held at City facilities and that do not meet exemptions outlined in the Governor’s orders, have been canceled. The following areas of City parks will close effective immediately and will remain closed until further notice - basketball courts and splash pads. Parks, trails, bathrooms, playgrounds and tennis courts will remain opened. The City will continue to evaluate its operations and facilities and determine whether additional amenities will close to comply with Governor Abbott’s orders.

Victoria County is experiencing a high rate of community transmission of COVID-19, and as the holiday weekend approaches, Victoria residents are strongly advised to abide by Governor Abbott’s orders and the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
