Here at the City of Victoria, we try to find ways to improve throughout the year, but we recognize that the start of 2021 is a perfect time for new beginnings. That’s why we’re kicking off the new year with some exciting initiatives that have been in the works for some time now, among them the community involvement phases of the new master plans; an updated format for our newsletter, The City View; and the return of Citizens Academy.
Whether you’ve already picked a personal goal or you’re still looking for a way to better yourself this new year, we hope you’ll join us in our efforts to enhance livability. Here are some ideas for resolutions you can make in 2021:
Stay active. Getting fit and losing weight are among the most common new year’s resolutions, and fortunately, the City offers plenty of ways for you to get moving. Pay a visit to one of the City’s parks or walking trails, where you can enjoy fun activities like jogging, kayaking and disc golf.
Make sure you’re following Parks & Recreation on Facebook so you can receive notifications about upcoming sports leagues and other events, which will be conducted according to current social distancing regulations.
Stay informed. If you’d like to be more educated and informed about the world around you, why not start local? The City of Victoria offers multiple ways for residents to stay up to date about everything that’s happening in Victoria, from social media to podcasts to this very blog. Visit www.victoriatx.gov/communications to learn more about how you can learn more about us.
Give back. Making a commitment to spend more time volunteering and giving back to the community can be very rewarding, and Victoria has no shortage of local organizations working to make our community a better place. One of them is Keep Victoria Beautiful, which recently resumed hosting volunteer cleanup events. To sign up to be notified of future cleanups, visit www.victoriatx.gov/kvb.
The City also oversees multiple volunteer boards and committees that play a role in improving parks, tourism, economic development and much more. Residents will be notified when positions become available.
Make your voice heard. If your goal is to make a difference in your community, speaking up and sharing your ideas can be a great way to do it. The City is currently seeking community input on its master plans for thoroughfares and downtown, and other important plans are soon to follow. Visit www.victoriatx.gov/masterplans to let us know about the changes you’d like to see in Victoria.
After the rough year that was 2020, we’re more determined than ever to make 2021 our best year yet. Let’s work together to better ourselves and our community!
