[ARCHIVED] City landfill, compost site to close temporarily Saturday

Plastic liner rolled out at landfill

PHOTO: A half-cell at the Victoria landfill, 18141 FM 1686, is covered with a thick plastic liner to prevent contaminants from leaking into the environment.

Due to increased rainfall, Victoria’s compost site will close Saturday, and the landfill will close to all non-commercial garbage disposal.

Residential customers will not be able to dispose of trash at the landfill Saturday. Only commercial garbage haulers will be able to dispose of trash.

The compost site and landfill will reopen to the public during regular business hours Monday.

Garbage, curbside recycling, yard waste and/or tree limbs will be collected as normally scheduled next week.
