Caregivers can learn about best practices for child safety seats and find out whether their children are buckled up properly at the City of Victoria’s upcoming caregiver class and car seat inspection event in partnership with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and the Victoria Housing Authority.

Attendance at both events is encouraged but not required.

The City of Victoria Municipal Court and AgriLife’s Passenger Safety and KidSafe Initiatives program will first host a class 6-7 p.m. April 11 at the Municipal Court building, 107 W. Juan Linn St., to teach caregivers about different types of car seats and how to choose the most suitable ones for their children.

The City will then host the car seat inspection event 4-6 p.m. April 12 at the Victoria Housing Authority offices, 4001 Halsey St.

The City’s certified child passenger safety technicians will teach caregivers about best practices they might not be aware of, including how to use the seat belt or LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) systems in their vehicles and how to install car seats according to safety standards for their specific seats and vehicles.

Caregivers must bring the child and the child’s car seat to the event.

Both of these events are free, but registration is required to receive a car seat inspection. To sign up, visit www.victoriatx.gov/carseat

The court plans to continue partnering with nonprofits to host car seat inspections in accessible locations. To partner with the court to host an outreach event, visit www.victoriatx.gov/courtoutreach.
