City of Victoria Environmental Services Assistant Director Christy Youker, right-of-way worker Joseph Vargas, Director Darryl Lesak, Precinct 2 County Commissioner Jason Ohrt, Mayor Jeff Bauknight, daughter Megan Bauknight and Assistant City Manager Mike Etienne broke ground on a new Welcome to Victoria sign June 20 at Highway 77 and Tate Road. The new sign will include a limestone design, similar to the other entryway signs, and will be elevated for greater visibility. The landscaping around the sign will include native and adaptive plants. Construction is expected to finish in October. The sign on Highway 77 will be the fourth Welcome to Victoria sign that the Community Appearance Division has added or refurbished since 2020. Other locations where signage and landscaping have been updated include Bloomington Highway, Highway 87 from Cuero and Highway 77 from Goliad.
