The City of Victoria Public Works is preparing to provide maintenance for approximately 1,700 residential water meters, replacing the meters or their component parts (antenna and battery) as needed.

The City partnered with Sensus Meters and its regional vendor, Aqua-Metrics, in 2012 to replace all 22,000 of the City’s manual-read residential water meters with automated meter read (AMR) meters. These automated meters, which are more accurate than manual-read meters, send readings directly to the Utility Billing Office by radio.

This year, the City will begin replacing the meters and their components on a more regular basis. This intentional maintenance program will keep the meters running smoothly as parts wear out over time.

During the first year of this program, the City will replace 1,700 meters and/or the components between fall 2023 and summer 2024.

What to expect

Customers whose meters will be replaced will be notified individually before the installations take place. These customers may experience brief interruptions to their water service while the meters are being installed.

Water rates will not go up because of the program.
