The Victoria Public Library’s Gingerbread House Workshop is just around the corner, and library staff have been as busy as Santa’s elves as they prepare to host this cherished tradition.
The Gingerbread House Workshop will be 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Victoria Community Center Annex. Kits will be provided while supplies last.
The event will feature Santa’s Helpers Avenue, an opportunity for families to explore the local resources available in Victoria. During the workshop, families can walk through Santa’s Helpers Avenue and learn about various City departments, local businesses and nonprofits.
“The Gingerbread House Workshop is a 33-year tradition that reaches many families during the holiday season,” said Youth Programs Supervisor Keyla Diaz. “I personally have enjoyed this community event with my own family.”
Diaz expressed her appreciation for local businesses’ support for library programs, including the new “Show Your Library Card” promotion.
Diaz explained that the workshop is a labor of love for library staff, who assemble hundreds of gingerbread house kits by hand for the event.
“We are happy and proud to offer this event to our patrons citywide and hope that they’ll continue joining us for many years to come,” Diaz said.
Funding for the workshop is provided by the Friends of the Victoria Public Library, a volunteer organization that raises funds for library events through book sales and membership fees.
