[ARCHIVED] TAAF Winter Games of Texas kicks off this weekend

PHOTO #1: Archery will be held Jan. 12-14 at STX Archery & Outdoors as part of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Winter Games of Texas.

PHOTO #2: Cornhole will be played Jan. 14 at the Victoria Community Center as part of the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Winter Games of Texas.

Victoria residents will have a chance to see the state’s top amateur athletes compete during the first weekend of the 2024 Texas Amateur Athletic Federation Winter Games of Texas.

The following events will take place Jan. 12-15:

  • A line of people preparing to throw cornhole bags in the Community Center domeArchery: STX Archery & Outdoors; 6 p.m. Jan. 12, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 13, 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Jan. 14
  • Cornhole: Victoria Community Center; 11 a.m. Jan. 14
  • Disc golf: Riverside Disc Golf Course; 9 a.m. Jan. 13
  • Swimming: VISD Aquatics Center; Jan. 13-14 (start times vary)
  • Wheelchair basketball: Victoria East High School; 9 a.m. Jan. 13-14

Start times are subject to change based on attendance and other factors. Information about individual events, including ticket information, is available at www.victoriatx.gov/tournaments

The second weekend of events will be Feb. 24-25.

Become a volunteer

The City is seeking residents to serve as hospitality hosts and tournament support volunteers during both weekends. Volunteers can choose which sports they want to attend, and every volunteer will receive a free T-shirt.

To sign up, contact Sports Tourism Manager Alexander Aguero at 361-485-3207 or aaguero@victoriatx.gov. The deadline to register as a volunteer for the January games is Jan. 10.

The City will kick off the games 2 p.m. Jan. 12 with a press conference that will be livestreamed on Facebook at City of Victoria, Texas – Government.
