[ARCHIVED] City honors winners of bicentennial poster contest

PHOTO #1: Bella Barber, Faith Academy, was the first-place winner in the 6th-8th grade category of the City of Victoria bicentennial poster contest.

PHOTO #2: Jayden Balli, Balli Classical Homeschool, was the first-place winner in the 4th-5th grade category of the City of Victoria bicentennial poster contest.

PHOTO #3: Matthew Balli, Balli Classical Homeschool, was the first-place winner in the 2nd-3rd grade category of the City of Victoria bicentennial poster contest.

The City hosted its bicentennial poster contest in honor of Victoria turning 200 this year, inviting students to create posters based on the theme “200 Years of Life in the City of Victoria.”

The contest recognized the creativity of students in Victoria who used their skills to share their visions of Victoria’s past, present and future. The winning students showed pride for their city in innovative ways.

Kindergarten-1st grade

  • 1st place: Jonathan Hubble, homeschool
  • 2nd place: Julian Garcia, Trinity Episcopal School
  • 3rd place: Zayan Jafri, Trinity Episcopal School

2nd-3rd grade

  • 1st place: Matthew Balli, Balli Classical Homeschool
  • 2nd place: Grant Gietz, Trinity Episcopal School
  • 3rd place: Klarissa C., Victoria ISD

4th-5th grade

  • A collage of Victoria imagery, including De Leon cattle brand, children's museum and zooJayden Balli, Balli Classical Homeschool
  • Caroline Williams, Trinity Episcopal School
  • Leland Scott, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School

6th-8th grade

  • Bella Barber, Faith Academy
  • Aiden Ramirez, Faith Academy
  • Sophia Gonzalez, Faith Academy

“I want to thank everyone who participated for their hard work and creativity,” said Joel Novosad, director of the City of Victoria Convention & Visitors Bureau. “The judges were pleased to see the theme come to life with students’ interpretations of Victoria’s history and future.” 

First-place winners will receive a $250 VISA gift card, second-place winners will receive a $100 VISA gift card and third-place winners will receive a $50 VISA gift card.
