[ARCHIVED] City of Victoria hires new Parks & Recreation director

Lisa Wube

As someone who grew up in local neighborhood recreation center programs, Lisa Wube knew that she wanted to give back one day by helping to cultivate these types of community activities.

The City of Victoria recently hired Lisa Wube as its new director of Parks & Recreation. Her first day with the City will be April 29.

“Recreation programs play such an important role in community engagement,” Wube said. “They create opportunities for families and for people of all generations to come together and develop lifelong hobbies and interests.”

Wube previously served as Parks & Recreation director for the City of Lancaster, assistant director of Parks & Recreation for the City of Irving and sports director for the City of Evansville, Indiana.

She holds a master’s degree in physical education and recreation with a concentration in athletic administration from North Carolina Central University, and she also played Division I college basketball.

“I am excited to welcome Lisa Wube to lead our Parks & Recreation team,” City Manager Jesús A. Garza said. “Her skills and experience will be an excellent fit as we seek to grow our recreational programming and expand in the area of sports tourism.”

Wube is eager to be a part of the City’s mission of enhancing livability, citing the De Leon Plaza Expansion Project and the City’s master plans as examples of the City’s commitment to community development.

“The Parks & Recreation staff clearly care about residents and seemed excited about the community center master plan and other upcoming initiatives,” Wube said. “I am looking forward to helping this team thrive.”
