Every street in Victoria has been swept clean under the City’s new in-house street sweeping program that began last year.

The City Council approved the purchase of two street sweepers in 2022 after Public Works Director Ken Gill explained that the City could purchase and maintain the sweepers and hire two employees to operate them for less than the cost of outsourcing the service.

Public Works received the street sweepers in 2023 and began sweeping highways and collector streets in August of the same year. In October, the sweepers moved on to neighborhood streets.

The sweepers completed the last neighborhood street earlier this month. Now, Public Works is starting its second sweep of the City.

How often will streets be swept?

Going forward, highways and collector streets will be swept once per month, and neighborhood streets will be swept about once per quarter.

To work efficiently and avoid delays, Public Works will follow a set schedule rather than taking individual requests for street sweeping.
