During the City of Victoria’s bicentennial celebrations on April 13, three individuals received keys to the city in honor of their contributions to the Victoria community.
Mayor Duane Crocker presented each of the keys “on behalf of the City of Victoria and the City Council.”
The first key was given to “Brother” Gary Moses at De Leon Plaza following the Victoria Day of Caring group photo, in honor of his impact on Victoria during his teaching career and through his presence and support at a wide variety of community events.
The second key was given to the De Leon family, led by Blanche De Leon, during the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newly expanded plaza, in honor of the family’s role in highlighting the legacy of Martín de León and Patricia de la Garza, particularly their support for the new memorial statue that was unveiled April 13.
The third and final key was given to State Representative Geanie Morrison during the Bicentennial Ball at the Victoria Community Center, in honor of her advocacy for the Victoria community and her contributions to state legislation throughout her career, including the first-of-its-kind “Baby Moses Law” that aims to protect newborn infants who are at risk of abandonment.
