The Victoria Police Department, the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office and other area law enforcement agencies will host a memorial ceremony 9 a.m. May 15 at De Leon Plaza to honor Texas officers who have died in the line of duty.
The ceremony is part of National Police Week. This week has been designated since 1962 as a time to remember law enforcement officers who gave their lives to protect their fellow citizens and to recognize those who continue to serve.
The ceremony, which is open to the public, will include:
- A City proclamation and County resolution in honor of National Police Week
- Presentation of the colors by the Law Enforcement Color Guard
- Roll call of fallen Texas officers
- Placement of a memorial wreath
Victoria Police Department Chief Chuck Young encouraged residents to remember those officers who have fallen in the line of duty and to honor and thank current officers. Residents can show their support by writing letters, displaying blue ribbons or simply thanking an officer.
“The sacrifices made by all of our officers, living and deceased, are something we should never take for granted,” Young said. “It makes such a difference to these officers to know that they are loved and supported by their community.”
