Children aged 10-14 will be able to learn about police work through demonstrations and hands-on activities at Camp Keimryn, the annual summer camp hosted by the Victoria Police Department.

The camp will be held June 24-27. Camp hours will be 8 a.m.-12 p.m. every day except June 26, which will be 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Outlaw Pass.

The summer camp is named after Keimryn Lee, a 9-year-old cancer patient who dreamed of becoming a police officer.

Campers will get to meet their local police officers and learn about police vehicles, K-9 units, clearing a building, handcuffing, traffic stops, performing CPR and more. Campers will also participate in team-building activities to develop social skills, leadership and positive attitudes.

The camp is sponsored by Chick-fil-A, Raising Cane’s, A&A Bail Bonds, the Victoria Police Foundation, Outlaw Pass and the Keimryn Strong Foundation.

How to sign up

Application forms can be downloaded at www.victoriatx.gov/police or picked up at the VPD substation in the Victoria Mall. Completed application forms and fees must be turned in at the VPD substation by June 10.

Children must be 10-14 years old to participate. Space is limited, and applicants are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.

The cost of the camp is $60, which includes snacks, meals, a camp T-shirt and a day at Outlaw Pass.

For more information about Camp Keimryn, contact the Victoria Police Department Training Unit at policetraining@victoriatx.gov or 361-485-3799.
