A different event will be hosted in Queen City Park 10:30-11:30 a.m. every Friday through Aug. 2, except for July 5.

“We wanted to give people in the Queen City neighborhood a reason to come to the park,” said Parks & Recreation Director Lisa Wube. “Neighborhood parks are a community resource that play an important role in bringing people together, and staff have been spreading the word about this event series in the hopes that families will join us and enjoy their park together.”

Going forward, staff intend to offer arts and crafts, games and volunteer opportunities, as well as a back-to-school drive when the school year gets closer.

What else is the City doing in the park?

Volunteers repainted the welcome sign and the basketball court, filled the planter box and put in a new grill.

The Fun Fridays series is part of a broader effort by multiple City of Victoria departments to help reactivate Queen City Park.

In addition to addressing security concerns through improved lighting and increased police presence in the area, the City has been encouraging residents to use the park through events such as the Keep Victoria Beautiful resource fair in 2023 as well as the Victoria Day of Caring service project on Victoria’s bicentennial date.
