With temperatures expected to drop below freezing next week, the City of Victoria is advising residents to make preparations based on accurate information from the National Weather Service and other official sources.

Protect pipes responsibly

Resident should follow these tips to protect their pipes without burdening the City’s water supply:

  • Please allow only the furthest faucet from your meter to slowly drip. If you live in an apartment, only let one faucet drip in your unit.
  • Cover the faucets outside the house to keep them from freezing.
  • Open up your cabinets in your house and keep your house warm.
  • Turn off your sprinkler/irrigation lines.
  • If you have a leak, contact Public Works at 361-485-3380 to turn your meter off. The City will not charge residents for meter shutoffs during this weather event.

Trash and recycling pickups will be delayed

Trash and recycling pickups scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, and Wednesday, Jan. 22, are expected to run late due to the weather.

Residents whose trash and recycling are picked up Tuesday and Wednesday should leave their carts on the curb for the entire day. Delayed pickups can last through the nighttime hours, so residents should continue to leave their carts on the curb if they have not been picked up.

The drivers will aim to finish their routes the same day. However, if your collection is missed, leave your cart on the curb and it will be picked up the following day.

All trash and recycling pickups on Monday, Jan. 20, will continue as normally scheduled.

The City of Victoria Environmental Services will continue to monitor the weather to determine if any further changes to the schedule are needed. Solid Waste customers will receive updates through the City of Victoria Alert Center.

City offices will remain open

City offices will close Jan. 21.

As previously announced, City offices will close Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
