With temperatures expected to drop below freezing next week, the City of Victoria is advising residents to make preparations based on accurate information from the National Weather Service and other official sources.
Protect pipes responsibly
Residents should follow these tips to protect their pipes without burdening the City’s water supply:
- Please allow only the furthest faucet from your meter to slowly drip. If you live in an apartment, only let one faucet drip in your unit.
- Cover the faucets outside the house to keep them from freezing.
- Open up your cabinets in your house and keep your house warm.
- Turn off your sprinkler/irrigation lines.
- If you have a leak, contact Public Works at 361-485-3380 to turn your meter off. The City will not charge residents for meter shutoffs during this weather event.
Trash and recycling pickups will be rescheduled
The City of Victoria is rescheduling its trash, recycling and yard waste pickups Tuesday and Wednesday due to inclement weather.
- Pickups scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 21, will be picked up Wednesday, Jan. 22.
- Pickups scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 22, will be picked up Saturday, Jan. 25.
Residents are reminded to place their carts on the curb by 7 a.m. and leave them there for the entire day.
In addition, the landfill and compost/brush site will be closed Tuesday. The facilities are expected to reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
The City of Victoria Environmental Services will continue to monitor the weather to determine if any further changes to the schedule are needed. Solid Waste customers will receive updates through the City of Victoria Alert Center.
City offices will remain open
City offices will close Jan. 21.
As previously announced, City offices will close Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
