Jonas Titas, executive director of the Victoria Economic Development Corporation Regional Partnership, recently appeared on the City of Victoria’s Town Talk podcast to discuss his agency’s efforts to bring industry and jobs to Victoria.
The VEDC Regional Partnership works in tandem with many local agencies, including the City of Victoria Department of Economic Development. However, while the City’s department focuses on retail recruitment, Titas’ agency focuses on large industries that help to create jobs and produce goods that can be exported.
Titas highlighted many of the recent gains that have been made possible through this regional partnership, including the newly announced Amazon delivery station that is under construction off U.S. 59.
“That means that when we purchase things on Amazon, they’ll get here quicker, but it’s also synonymous with outside people realizing that there’s economic growth happening here,” Titas said. “There’s a market here, and they want to be a part of it. It segues very perfectly into the mayor’s initiatives of promoting growth.”
Titas explained that the agency’s recent rebranding to include the words “Regional Partnership” reflects the importance of supporting growth throughout our region.
“We know that if something is going to happen in Edna or Calhoun County or Port Lavaca or Goliad, it’s much better for us than if it were to locate in Louisiana or Oklahoma,” Titas said.
