[ARCHIVED] Time to shake it up for the Victoria Public Library’s 50th!

Library Assistant Director Jessica Berger

Are you free this summer? If so, we invite you to come shake it up with the Victoria Public Library and celebrate our 50 grand years of providing residents and visitors with materials and services.

The library has come a long way since it was first established on October 4, 1975. Since that time, the Victoria Public Library has continued to add services for the public, from the first computer in 1981 to adding a 3D printer in 2017. The library regularly hosts events and programs for all ages.

The Victoria Public Library strives to help residents and visitors easily access physical materials like books, magazines and DVDs, as well as digital resources, online databases and ebooks. Over the past year we have held true to these goals and installed another pick-up locker at the Victoria Mall to allow patrons to receive and turn in their materials without having to find time in their busy schedules to stop by the library.

This year, the library invites you to join the celebration of our 50th anniversary and attend the variety of events that we are hosting. These events include:

  • Children’s collaborative wooden puzzle art that will be displayed in the library.
  • A scavenger hunt for adult patrons with a rebus puzzle leading to a golden ticket hidden in the stacks.
  • A time capsule event where patrons can write, draw, and share memories about the library.
  • A special family story and craft time where parents can take their children to create and learn.

Along with events and activities, the Victoria Public Library has also partnered up with multiple local businesses. The Green Cow Creamery will be serving a special Victoria Public Library ice cream flavor Sept. 1-6. Blume & Flour will offer a unique drink during the entire month of June in partnership with the library.

The library will also have a historical milestone activity, with a new social media post every month with a different milestone. These posts will help patrons, specifically the history fanatics, learn more about the Victoria Public Library’s past, and how it became what it is today.

Calling all artists! During this summer, patrons can celebrate the library’s birthday by designing a limited edition library card. The winning design will be used to promote Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

We are looking forward to spending time with the public and shaking it up by trying new things throughout the year. Along with these family events, the library is hosting an adult cocktail event. The Victoria Public Library has never done an event such as this one, and we are very excited to test the waters— or dare I say, cocktails— of a new event.

Stay tuned
