Coming soon to a theater near you (Cinemark, to be exact): Luxury Lounger recliners, premium format auditoriums, updated concession and lobby areas and other upgrades to give residents an improved cinematic experience.
The Victoria Sales Tax Development Corporation has partnered with Cinemark Theaters and its developer, Hull Property Group, to enhance the Victoria 12 theater with some of Cinemark’s most popular premium amenities.
The City and the VSTDC previously partnered with Hull Property Group on a sales tax rebate agreement that helped to attract Longhorn Steakhouse and Murdoch’s Ranch & Home Supply.
“Working with developers is not only financially beneficial to the City; it helps to expand retail and entertainment options for our residents,” said Economic Development Director Danielle Williams. “We hope our residents will appreciate having a local option for the type of luxury movie experience that is increasingly becoming the industry standard.”

According to information provided by Cinemark, the theater will boast the following amenities after the renovation:
- Fan-favorite Luxury Lounger recliners in every auditorium: electric-powered, oversized plush recliners for maximum movie-watching comfort;
- Two Cinemark XD auditoriums: premium large-format theaters with the biggest wall-to-wall screen in the building and 11.1-layer multichannel surround sound for the ultimate viewing experience;
- D-BOX motion seats that provide moviegoers with a complete immersive dimension to the cinematographic experience by perfectly synchronizing the action on the screen with individual motion control in the seats;
- Updated concession and lobby areas, restrooms, auditorium entrances, exterior paint and more.
The entertainment business

This renovation has the potential to drive more moviegoing and subsequently increased sales tax revenue for the VSTDC and the City of Victoria. The project will also bring increased property tax revenue by increasing the value of the theater.
“Cinemark is excited to work with the city of Victoria to solidify the local theater as the preeminent out-of-home entertainment destination in the area,” said Jay Jostrand, EVP of Real Estate for Cinemark. “The highly sought-after amenities including Luxury Lounger recliners and superior sight and sound technology will fully immerse local moviegoers as they watch captivating films on the big screen.”
The project also aims to increase the marketability of undeveloped property near the theater, creating new revenue sources and entertainment options over time.
How it’s funded
The VSTDC will contribute up to $500,000 for the project, while the developer must contribute at least $3 million in addition to investments by Cinemark. The VSTDC funding will be paid in installments based on milestones outlined in the agreement.
What’s next
The first phase of the project has already begun, with seats being removed from some of the auditoriums to prepare for the remodeling. Construction is expected to finish later this summer.
The theater will remain open throughout construction, with rotating auditorium closures.
