Residents should be aware of a recent scam involving fraudulent text messages claiming to be from the City of Victoria Municipal Court demanding payment for traffic citations.
While the court does send official text reminders about upcoming court dates and payment due dates, we will never demand immediate payment or use threatening language.
The court communicates through various methods, including mail, email, and text messages, to inform individuals about due dates or upcoming court appearances. Additionally, the court may place outgoing phone calls to return voicemails or request further documentation after receiving online submissions.
The following is an example of what a text from the court may look like. “CITY OF VICTORIA: MUNICIPAL COURT JANE DOE This is a notice that your appearance date for Citation 1234657 is Friday, 7/18/2025. You may appear anytime on or before this date. If you have any questions on what the options are to handle your citation, contact the Court at 361-485-3050 or by email courtclerk@victoriatx.gov. You may pay by phone at 361-485-3845 or online at https://go.egov.com/7A4wT9F”
If you receive a suspicious message, do not respond or click on any links. Instead, contact the Municipal Court directly at 361-485-3050 to verify its authenticity.
