City issues citywide boil-water notice due to low chlorine in localized area per TCEQ requirements
The City of Victoria out of an abundance of caution is issuing a citywide boil-water notice effective immediately in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality requirements after low chlorine levels were detected in a localized area.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) tested the City’s water on Aug. 6 in the area of Holt Road, between Business 59 and Highway 59 approaching Telferner (shown on the attached map). The TCEQ measured a residual chlorine level of 0.15 ppm, which is below the 0.2 ppm required by the TCEQ during a chlorine conversion.
Neither the City nor TCEQ have found any indication that other areas of the system are affected, and no evidence of contamination was found in the impacted area or anywhere else in the water system. The City has been testing its chlorine levels more frequently in order to ensure consistent compliance throughout the entire system, which indicates the problem is localized to the area where the testing occurred. However, the TCEQ is requiring the City to issue a citywide boil-water notice out of an abundance of caution.
More information about the boil-water notice, including precautionary measures recommended by the TCEQ, can be found here: Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems – August 6, 2025. (https://www.victoriatx.gov/DocumentCenter/View/18029/city-boil-water-notice-August-6).
The TCEQ recommends that all residents follow the measures out of an abundance of caution. The City especially encourages residents and businesses in the affected area to follow these precautions.
