The City of Victoria has restored chlorine levels in the affected area and confirmed levels throughout the entire water system, to meet all Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) requirements and is now waiting for further guidance from the agency on the next steps and timeline to lift the citywide boil-water notice.

By 6 p.m. on Aug. 6, the City met the minimum required chlorine residuals set by TCEQ and continued testing throughout the night to ensure consistent results. The City has notified TCEQ and is now awaiting further instruction, which will help determine a timeline to rescind the boil-water notice.
The citywide boil-water notice, issued out of an abundance of caution as required by TCEQ, remains in effect until the agency gives the final authorization to rescind it.
Residents, especially those in the impacted area previously shown in a map, should continue to boil water intended for drinking, cooking and other direct consumption until further notice.
Precautionary citywide notice issued Aug. 6 despite localized issue
After a localized drop in chlorine levels by 0.05 ppm was detected on August 6 near Holt Road, City crews immediately intensified testing and flushing efforts in the area. Chlorine levels in that location and throughout the entire water system now meet or exceed the state’s minimum standard of 0.2 ppm required during a chlorine conversion.
Neither the City nor TCEQ ever found any indication that other areas of the system were affected, and no evidence of contamination was found in the impacted area or anywhere else in the water system. The City has been testing its chlorine levels more frequently to ensure consistent compliance throughout the entire system, which indicated yesterday that the problem was localized to the area where the testing occurred. However, the TCEQ required the City to issue a citywide boil-water notice out of an abundance of caution.
