The Victoria Fire Department is gearing up for a fun and educational show about lithium-ion battery safety in your home.
The fire department is inviting local schools and the general public to attend the department’s 2025 fire prevention show at the Victoria Fine Arts Center, 1002 Sam Houston Drive, on the following dates:
- Tuesday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m. & 1 p.m.
- Wednesday, Oct. 8, 9 a.m. & 1 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 9, 9 a.m.
The show, featuring characters from a popular children’s television show, is based on this year’s Fire Prevention Week theme: “Power Up into Fire Prevention: Lithium-Ion Battery Safety in Your Home.”
Fire Prevention Week is a nationwide campaign led by the National Fire Protection Association to teach children and adults about common fire hazards.
Buy, Charge and Recycle
Most electronics we use daily, like phones, tablets, and power tools, run on lithium-ion batteries. The Victoria Fire Department and the National Fire Protection Association offer the following tips for proper use of lithium-ion batteries:
Buy
- Buy only certified products
- Look for a safety certification on the packaging
Charge
- Only use the charger that came with your device or a manufacturer-approved charger
- Charge only on hard surfaces
- Don’t overcharge
Recycle
You can help make your home and your community safer by recycling batteries the right way. To learn more about Victoria Fire Department events and programs, visit www.victoriatx.gov/fire.
