[ARCHIVED] City prepares for tree lighting ceremony, Lighted Christmas Parade

People cheering around the lighted Christmas tree downtown, including Santa and Mrs. ClausThe City of Victoria is inviting residents to downtown Victoria on Dec. 6 for a festive double feature to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

The evening kicks off with the traditional lighting of the H-E-B Christmas Tree at 5:30 p.m. at De Leon Plaza.

The festivities will continue with the Lighted Christmas Parade starting about 6 p.m. The parade will feature more than 100 businesses, school bands, churches and car clubs who will make the streets of downtown merry and bright.

Both the parade and the tree lighting ceremony will be livestreamed on Facebook at City of Victoria, Texas – Government.

Food trucks will be on-site during the event.

Parade route and street closures

The parade will begin at the intersection of Main Street and Goodwin Avenue, then proceed down Main Street to Church Street, and finally continue back up Bridge Street to Goodwin Avenue.

Motorists should exercise caution and should not attempt to drive into barricaded areas.

What’s next

Saturday, Dec. 13, the City of Victoria and Mother Cluckers Downtown will host Merry on Main, featuring vendors, food trucks, activities and entertainment.

Wednesday, Dec. 31, the City will host the New Year’s Eve fireworks show in Riverside Park.
