[ARCHIVED] City of Victoria to host virtual lighting ceremony for Christmas tree

Decorated Christmas tree stands at edge of DeLeon Plaza across from One O'Connor building

DeLeon Plaza will be all aglow with lighted decorations this holiday season, and the crown jewel will be a 30-foot Christmas tree that will treat visitors to an animated light display set to festive Christmas music.

The H-E-B Christmas Tree will be brought to life during a lighting ceremony Dec. 4. The ceremony will be closed to the general public but will be livestreamed starting at 6 p.m. on the City’s Facebook page and the City of Victoria Main Street Program Facebook page. The ceremony is expected to last until 6:45 p.m. After the ceremony, the area will reopen to the public.

“We are so excited to be able to brighten up downtown by adding the Christmas tree this year,” said City of Victoria Main Street Program Director Danielle Williams. “Although we had hoped to host a public lighting ceremony, we hope residents will tune in to the livestream and then come downtown with their families throughout the season to watch the light show.”

The Victoria Main Street Program started testing the tree downtown last week. After the tree is fully activated during the lighting ceremony, it will play an eight-minute musical light show every half hour 6-10:30 p.m. every day through early January.

The Victoria Main Street Program will add more festive downtown features leading up to the lighting ceremony, including large lighted decorations and a photo station. Also, the Community Appearance Division will add hanging baskets of poinsettias at DeLeon Plaza.
