Residents will be able to decide on rules for term limits, emergency elections and many other local government functions when the City hosts an election May 7 on 14 proposed amendments to the City charter.
The City Council last year appointed a committee of residents to recommend changes to the charter, which was last updated in 2012. The committee developed 14 proposed amendments to bring to the voters.
“Updating our City charter is an important process that allows us to ensure our local government structure continues to operate in a way that facilitates long-term sustainability,” said City Manager Jesús A. Garza. “We encourage residents to get informed and vote so they can help shape our future charter.”
Residents can learn more about the proposed amendments at www.victoriatx.gov/charter. This page includes a list of amendments and a brief description of each one. Residents can also compare the current charter to the proposed revisions.
