[ARCHIVED] Keep Victoria Beautiful and partners host Queen City cleanup, resource fair

Large group of people in a park wearing orange and yellow work vests with trash bags and grabbers

Community members gather in Queen City Park on March 4 before the Queen City neighborhood cleanup hosted by Keep Victoria Beautiful. About 200 volunteers helped residents move brush and bulky trash to their curbs during the cleanup. The City of Victoria Environmental Services provided additional no-cost pickups in the neighborhood leading up to the event. The volunteers collected 83 bags of litters in addition to the bulky items that were moved. Volunteers also provided minor exterior work at a home as part of the Brush Up program in partnership with Habitat for Humanity. United Way of the Crossroads, Victoria College, the Victoria County Public Health Department, Be Well Victoria, the Victoria Housing Authority, the Victoria Fire Department, the Victoria Police Department, the Victoria Municipal Court, the Victoria Public Library, MHP Salud and the Texas Department of State Health Services provided information about services available to residents. The Victoria Fire Department installed smoke detectors at no cost to residents. The Victoria Police Department hosted a bike rodeo, educating kids about biking safety and giving away six free bikes. Sponsors for the event were Appliance Pro, which provided removal of freon from appliances; The Box Coffee Bar, which provided coffee; Del Papa Distributing, which provided drinks; The NRP Group, which provided hot dogs; Wal-Mart North Navarro, which provided the bikes; and the Wade & Carter Show and Lowe’s, which provided potted flowers for residents.
