The students collected 45 pounds of food through food drives at local schools. After delivering the donation, the students toured the facility to learn more about how the food bank operates.

High school students with an interest in civic involvement can apply to serve on the Mayor’s Youth Council for the upcoming school year.

This student-led group began last year as a collaborative effort between Mayor Jeff Bauknight and local high school students. Students will have the opportunity to plan and execute service projects, learn about city government, develop leadership skills and bring awareness to issues that are important to Victoria’s youth.

Jeff Bauknight“The Mayor’s Youth Council idea was brought to me by a group of exceptional young people who have demonstrated a commitment to serving our community and making Victoria a better place to live, work and raise a family,” Bauknight said. “Through their dedication, hard work and leadership, they have made a lasting impact on our city and its residents.”

At the end of the school year, members will be recognized at a City Council meeting.
