City of Victoria librarian MariaLuisa Rodriguez recently graduated summa cum laude with her Master of Library and Information Studies degree from the University of Oklahoma. The MLIS degree includes the knowledge needed to work in both traditional and nontraditional library settings. The program equips graduates with the skills needed to contribute to public good in diverse communities through teaching, research, and service. Graduates learn about topics including information management, organization, and access, as well as social responsibility, innovation, and leadership. After earning her degree, she was promoted to the position of librarian at the Victoria Public Library. Rodriguez has worked for the City for one year and four months, and she held the position of library assistant as part of the Victoria Public Library’s Youth Services Programming team before being promoted to her current role. She earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and anthropology with a minor in biology from Texas State University.
