[ARCHIVED] City to continue chloramine water treatment, postpone chlorine switch

Water pours from a faucet into a glass

The City of Victoria will not need to switch to chlorine for water treatment as it normally does at this time of year, due to positive conditions that make the change unnecessary.

In previous years, the City has used chlorine instead of chloramines for water treatment for one month per year, usually in May or June, causing some residents to notice a change in their water’s taste or smell.

However, the City is currently able to maintain water quality without switching to chlorine thanks to newer water lines and increased efficiency in the City’s disinfection processes, as well as external factors such as the weather.

The City of Victoria Public Works continues to monitor Victoria’s water quality, and the City will notify residents if chlorine treatment becomes necessary in the future.

For more information, contact Public Works at 361-485-3380 or contact the Surface Water Treatment Plant at 361-485-3416.
