The City of Victoria Parks & Recreation is inviting the public to celebrate the completion of improvements at Victoria’s littlest neighborhood park.
Parks & Recreation will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony 9 a.m. Nov. 13 at Brownson Park, 202 N. Laurent St., as part of the department’s Toddlers on the Trail activity series.
Improvements to the park include:
- A new shaded play structure
- A new shaded swing set
- Rubber surfacing for safety and accessibility
- Interactive musical instruments
- More secure fencing
- Repainting of the basketball court
Turning over a new leaf
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Parks & Recreation will plant a tree at the park in honor of Texas Arbor Day, which is celebrated the first Friday in November.
Parks & Recreation plans to plant 4-6 additional trees at the park in the coming year to improve shading and aesthetics.
What’s next
Parks & Recreation will continue to upgrade and replace park equipment in line with Parks & Recreation master plan recommendations. Upcoming projects include:
- Ethel Lee Tracy Park: A new restroom will be built near the splash pad. Construction is expected to be completed in 2024.
- Pine Street Park: This neighborhood park will be upgraded in 2025. Staff expect to bring a contract to Council for approval in November.
- Children’s Park (within Riverside Park): Upgrades for this park will be designed in 2025, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in 2026. Parks & Recreation plans to add a splash pad with help from a grant from the Marsha Shanklin Foundation.
