Have you ever seen a problem that needed to be addressed (like a pothole, a streetlight that’s out, or a weedy lot) and didn’t know how to voice your concern? What if you knew there was a convenient way to immediately put your needs in front of the people who will fix them?
The City of Victoria launched the Victoria, Texas 311 app to provide a simple, one-stop shop for residents to submit various service requests. The app allows users to take a picture with their smartphone and send the request to the appropriate City department.
Here are just a few of the things that the app can be used for:
- Maintenance requests: Think of it like your personal customer-service line to the City. If you see a pothole, or if your trash pickup was missed, let us know so we can make it right. See a streetlight that’s out? The app can help address that, too.
- Code violations: If you’ve already asked your neighbor nicely to pick up their yard, the next step may be to make a report to Code Enforcement.
- Scheduling services: Got an old mattress or some tree limbs that need to be picked up? Be sure to schedule an appointment before you set it on the curb.
- Helpful links: Learn about paying your water bill, receiving news updates and more.
It is important to note that this app should not be used for emergencies or urgent service requests. If you need an immediate emergency response, please call 911. Please also note that the app is only monitored during business hours, so continue to direct late-night noise complaints to VPD’s nonemergency number.
Once you open the app, you can file a service request by clicking on “New Request.” You’ll then have the option to add a photo from your phone’s gallery or your smartphone camera. You can also choose to input a location, either by placing a marker on the map or by using your phone’s location.
Next, you’ll choose a category for your service request and input some basic information about the issue. Remember that reports are visible to other app users, so if you want to say anonymous, choose “Yes” under “Hide your identity from public view.”
The app also features an interactive map where you can view service requests submitted by other users. You can even submit comments and track the City’s progress in responding to requests throughout Victoria. When an issue is resolved by the City, you’ll receive a notification that your service request has been closed.
The next time you need something from the City, don’t wait — snap a picture, send a request and we’ll come help you out. To download the app, search for “Victoria Texas, 311” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Don’t have a smartphone? No worries — you can also access City services and look up department contact information on our website at www.victoriatx.gov. To send a service request online versus the app, click on “Report a Concern.”
