Adoption of the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC)
Effective February 4, 2026, the Victoria Fire Marshal’s Office has officially adopted the 2024 International Fire Code (IFC) as the primary fire code for the City of Victoria.
The adoption of the 2024 IFC:
Property owners, design professionals, contractors, and business operators are encouraged to review the updated code provisions to ensure compliance with the 2024 IFC. Existing permits, plans, and projects may be subject to review under the new code based on their application and approval dates.

The Fire Marshal's Office is overseen by the Fire Marshal and supported by a dedicated team of three full-time staff members. Together, they oversee fire inspections, conduct fire investigations, and provide public education programs. Each team member brings a diverse skill set and holds certifications in areas such as fire inspection, fire investigation, firefighting, and law enforcement. Their multidisciplinary training ensures a comprehensive approach to fire safety and prevention.
The division plays a key role in proactive fire prevention throughout the community. The office collaborates with local businesses to ensure compliance with fire safety codes through routine inspections and thorough review of construction plans. Committed to public safety, the team provides fire safety education for all age groups. Additionally, in the event of a fire, the office conducts detailed investigations to determine the origin and cause of each incident.
